Jets Get QB Joe Flacco From Eagles

After losing Zach Wilson to a knee injury, the Jets made a move to acquire a veteran quarterback.

The Jets acquired Joe Flacco from the Eagles in exchange for a conditional sixth-round pick that can become a fifth-rounder based on playing time. The Jets will be without Wilson, who suffered a right PCL sprain in Sunday’s 54-13 loss to the Patriots, for 2-4 weeks. The expectation is Mike White will be the starter this week against the Bengals and the Jets will get Flacco up to speed to back him up.

Flacco spent last season as Sam Darnold’s backup with the Jets and played in five games, starting four. The 36-year-old threw six touchdowns and three interceptions and 864 yards. The Jets lost all of his starts.

Atlanta Braves Knock Out Houston Astros To Win World Series

With a 7-0 win against the Houston Astros, the Atlanta Braves took the World Series in a remarkable turnaround from a middling performance through midsummer to the championship in November.

Jorge Soler provided the biggest blow — a mammoth, three-run homer in the top of the third to open the scoring — while Dansby Swanson added a two-run shot in the fifth and Freddie Freeman homered in the seventh as the Braves pulled away.

Atlanta also got a terrific outing from Max Fried, who’d struggled in his previous two postseason appearances but delivered six shutout innings Tuesday.

The Braves take the best-of-seven series 4-2.

It is Atlanta’s first World Series title since 1995.

QB Mike White Throws Over 400 Yards, Leads Jets to 34-31 Win Over Bengals

In the New York Jets’ 7th game of the 2021 season, on a perfect day for football in East Rutherford, the Jets gave the fans a Halloween treat with a surprising 34 – 31 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Early in the game the Jets marched right down the field for a touchdown against a good Bengals defense to open the game. Mike White was passing the ball all over the place, the Bengals came out a little flat, and just like that it was 7 – 0 Jets.

The defense forced a three and out and the Jets got the ball back, but quickly coughed it up on a Mike White interception, the first of three first half turnovers by the Jets. The Bengals scored 17 unanswered points to take a 17 – 7 lead at the two minute mark of the first half.

The Jets refused to fold, marching down the field for a Mike White to Braxton Berrios touchdown pass and a 17 – 14 halftime deficit.

In the second half it was the Mike White show. White led a relentless Jets offense on five consecutive scoring drives. He passed for more than 400 yards on the game, overcoming a couple of early interceptions to play out of his mind in his first NFL start.

The Jets had themselves an improbable 34 – 31 victory.

With the win the Jets go to 2-5 on the year.
