Mets, Brandon Nimmo Agree To Massive Deal

Outfielder Brandon Nimmo has agreed to an eight-year, $162 million contract to stay with the New York Mets. The Mets keep their center fielder and the biggest payroll in baseball only gets bigger.

The Mets added to the league’s highest payroll with the Nimmo deal, having previously re-signed closer Edwin Díaz to a nine-figure deal, as well as signing AL Cy Young winner Justin Verlander to a two-year, $86 million contract, during the ongoing free agency period.

The Wyoming native has a .269 career average with 63 home runs and 213 RBIs, which includes hitting for a .274 average, 16 home runs and 64 RBI s in 2022.

New Chicago Headquarters for McDonald’s

McDonald’s spent $250 million to open a new headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. Fans of the fast-food company can take a visual tour of the incredible facility, even if they aren’t able to see it in person. CEO Steve Easterbrook said that the new structure is part of an effort for McDonald’s to be a “more modern and progressive burger company.”

“We were based on the edge of the city for about the last 40 something years,” Easterbrook added while speaking to CNBC. “It’s been a wonderful facility for us, but it was a little detached from everyday life.” The new headquarters features state-of-the-art workspaces and an employee exclusive McCafe that offers delicious eats and treats for workers.

A little under 50 years ago McDonald’s moved its headquarters from downtown Chicago out to the suburbs of Oak Brook, Illinois. Now, the fast food conglomerate has returned to its roots, setting up its gorgeous new facility in Chicago’s West Loop, a trendy and up-and-coming area of the city.

Texas Rangers Sign Jacob deGrom To 5 Year Deal

Jacob deGrom has signed a five year, $185 million contract with the Texas Rangers. The deal has no deferments, a full no-trade clause, and a ‘conditional’ sixth year option. Due to Texas having no state income tax, the actual payout deGrom will receive is substantially higher.

The Rangers had been a rumored home for deGrom since the talk of his opting out became a more frequent topic earlier this season. The Mets were rumored to be offering a three year deal initially, for a higher average annual value, but this deal is clearly everything that deGrom was looking for: guaranteed years, big money, and a control over his destiny, vis a vis trades.

deGrom, who will turn 35 in the middle of next season, has has an injury riddled recent past, missing half the season in both 2021 and 2022. When he’s been healthy, deGrom has been as dominant as ever, having an absolutely incredible first half in 2021, posting a 1.05 ERA in 15 starts.
