The Los Angeles Dodgers have clinched the fall classic, beating the New York Yankees 7-6 in Game 5 to win Major League Baseball’s 2024 World Series.

The victory notched from a five-run deficit earlier in the game at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night marks the eighth World Series win in Dodgers’ franchise history. 

The contest this time around was made for high TV ratings, marking only the fifth time in more than a half-century that the Dodgers and Yankees have faced off for the world championship since the Dodgers relocated from Brooklyn to the West Coast in 1958.

Fireworks erupted across Los Angeles in celebration of the home town team’s triumph. The 2024 Dodgers proved to be a team full of fan favorites, from slugger Freddie Freeman who logged no less than four home runs during the series to superstar recruit Shohei Ohtani to Mookie Betts and pitchers Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Jack Flaherty and Walker Buehler.

The New York Giants and primetime football simply don’t mix and that trend stayed true on Monday night as Big Blue fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers, 26-18, in a game they arguably could have won.

Penalties and poor officiating will be a topic of conversation throughout the week but may be overshadowed by what appears to be growing frustration between head coach Brian Daboll and quarterback Daniel Jones. 

With the loss, the Giants fall to 2-6 and their season is all but over. Again.

The Pittsburgh Steelers made it three wins in a row with Calvin Austin scoring two touchdowns. The 25-year-old wide receiver scored the Steelers’ first punt return touchdown in nearly five years during the third quarter.

The victory was tied up in the fourth quarter when quarterback Russell Wilson found Austin with his signature ‘moon ball’ throw.

Rookie running back Tyrone Tracy Jr got the Giants back in it with a 45-yard touchdown, but Steelers cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr sealed the win by intercepting on the Giants’ final drive.

The New England Patriots proved to be tough enough to beat Aaron Rodgers and the stumbling New York Jets.

Rhamondre Stevenson plunged into the end zone with 22 seconds left and the New England Patriots recovered after first-round draft pick Drake Maye left with a concussion early to beat Aaron Rodgers and the much-hyped New York Jets 25-22 on Sunday.

Starter-turned-backup Jacoby Brissett replaced the quarterback who replaced him and led the Patriots (2-6) on two fourth-quarter scoring drives to snap a six-game losing streak and send the Jets (2-6) to their fifth loss in a row.

Brissett, who started the Patriots’ first five games, completed 15 of 24 passes for 132 yards; Maye was 3 of 6 for 23 yards and also ran for 46 yards on three carries – including an 18-yard scramble that ended with an unpenalized helmet-to-helmet hit from Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood.

Rodgers completed 17 of 28 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns, hitting Garrett Wilson five times for 113 yards. Breece Hall ran for 80 yards on 16 carries, and Braelon Allen scored on a 2-yard run to give the Jets the lead with three minutes remaining.
