The New York Jets, even as their prized, four-time MVP offseason acquisition in Aaron Rodgers was knocked out of the game on the team’s first offensive series, unseated the Buffalo Bills on Monday night in a come-from-behind victory, 22-16.

But they needed overtime and a 65-yard punt return touchdown from Xavier Gipson to do it. 

Behind safety Jordan Whitehead’s three interceptions off Bills quarterback Josh Allen, New York’s defense anchored the team and allowed backup Zach Wilson and the offense to hang around and make enough plays to set up a game-tying field goal late in the fourth quarter. 

Bills quarterback Josh Allen, however, led a nine-play, 43-yard drive that ended with Buffalo placekicker Tyler Bass doinking through a 50-yard kick to tie the game, sending it into overtime. 

The Bills were first to receive the ball but went three-and-out and punted the ball to Gipson, who broke a tackle and then weaved past the entire Bills unit for the game-winning score. 

The first Sunday of the NFL season concluded at MetLife Stadium and  it was a home opener that the New York Giants would soon hope to forget. 

 The Dallas Cowboys came into East Rutherford and dominated out of the gate en route to a 40-0 win. It was the Giants’ worst shutout loss at  home in franchise history and the Cowboys’ largest shutout win in their  franchise history.

This game was over with pretty early on. The Giants put together a solid opening drive that saw the ball travel down to the Dallas 8-yard line but were unable to punch it in for a touchdown. To make matters worse, the field goal attempt was blocked by the Cowboys, and Noah Igbinoghene scooped up the loose ball and went 58 yards to the house. That lit the wick for Dallas as it went on a 26-0 run to leave New York in the dust by halftime. 

This win now gives Dak Prescott 11 straight victories against the Giants, which ties Roger Staubach for the most consecutive wins against the franchise in its history. 

It was a whirlwind weekend for Jasson Dominguez, who beamed broadly as he stood in front of his locker in the visiting clubhouse late on Sunday evening, recounting the previous 72 hours in which “The Martian” seemed to make himself right at home in Space City.

Having already hit a home run off likely future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander with his first swing in the Majors, Domínguez delivered again, blasting a go-ahead home run that helped power the suddenly youthful Yankees to a 6-1 victory and a rare sweep of the Astros at Minute Maid Park.

Domínguez launched a two-run blast in the sixth inning off Houston starter Cristian Javier, helping propel New York to its first three-game sweep of Houston since Sept. 27-29, 2013.

This has not been the most fun of seasons for the Yankees. They have been an unenjoyable watch for the majority of this year. That, however, was not the case this weekend.

Thanks to a recent infusion of youth, the Yankees at the very least made themselves a source of intrigue for the three-game set at Minute Maid Park. They turned out to be more than just a curiosity, though, as they churned out a couple compelling victories and capped it off with a 6-1 win to sweep the Astros, their first of Houston in a decade.
