Nick Folk lined a 56-yard field goal through a heavy mist as time expired to lead the New York Jets to a 27-24 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

In a game between two struggling teams that was anything but pretty, Folk’s kick was also far from it. But in tough conditions, the 41-year-old got just enough on the football and was mobbed at midfield by his teammates as the Jets fans in a drenched and half-empty MetLife Stadium went wild.

Tyrod Taylor went 19 of 33 for 172 yards and a touchdown pass and also ran for a score in his second start for the benched Justin Fields as the Jets (3-9) snapped a two-game skid. Adonai Mitchell had eight receptions for 102 yards and a TD, and Breece Hall ran for 68 yards and a score.

After the defense held Kirk Cousins and the Falcons to a three-and-out, the Jets got the ball back at their 43 with 35 seconds left. Taylor hit Mitchell on the drive to put Folk in position for his winner.

Cousins went 21 of 33 for 234 yards and a touchdown and Bijan Robinson ran for 142 yards and a score and caught five passes for 51 yards for the Falcons (4-8), who lost for the sixth time in seven games.

The Detroit Lions defeated the New York Giants 34-27 in Overtime at Ford Field on Sunday. Week 12 was supposed to be easy for the Lions facing NFC’s last-place team Giants, but it wasn’t.

What was set as a double-digit game by the oddsmakers in favor of the Lions turned into a nail-biting, comeback, overtime win for Detroit in front of a relieved crowd. Jahmyr Gibbs raced 69 yards up the middle for a touchdown on the first play of overtime to give the Lions a 34-27 lead. 

 The Giants had a chance to answer, but Aidan Hutchinson sacked Jameis Winston on fourth down to end the game.

It was not a pretty victory, and for most of the game, New York was sharper than the host Lions, racing out to a 17-7 lead.

The Lions showed more energy and urgency in the second half. Gibbs scorched the Giants defense for 219 rushing yards on just 15 carries, punctuated with the game-winner.

The game featured over 1,000 combined yards of offense: 517 from New York and 494 from Detroit. 

The Lions improve to 7-4. The loss drops the Giants to 2-10 and makes New York the first team officially eliminated from the postseason. 

Derrick Henry scored two third-quarter touchdowns and the Baltimore Ravens recovered from a sleepy first half to beat the New York Jets 23-10 on Sunday for their fifth straight victory.

Lamar Jackson went 13 of 23 for 153 yards and didn’t look as mobile as usual after dealing with knee and ankle issues recently. Henry was held to 64 yards on 21 carries.

The Jets (2-9) led 7-3 at halftime, their first lead after two quarters since the season opener against Pittsburgh.

Jets coach Aaron Glenn opted to go with Tyrod Taylor at QB— starting for the benched Justin Fields. 

The 36-year-old Taylor, making just his 17th start over the last eight seasons, threw for 222 yards with a touchdown and a late interception against the team that drafted him in the sixth round in the 2011 draft.

The loss clinched the Jets’ 10th straight losing season. The Jets host the Falcons next Sunday.
