Knicks End Losing Streak, Beat Clippers

RJ Barrett erupted, Julius Randle didn’t get ejected and the Knicks didn’t blow a big lead as they ended their seven-game losing streak with  a stunning 116-93 pounding of the Clippers at Crytpo.com Arena.

In the third quarter, trailing by double digits, Clippers point guard Reggie Jackson soared in for a breakaway dunk and clanked it. Randle got the rebound and fired toward the basket on the other end for his own jam, smiling all the way downcourt.

The Knicks held  the Clippers to 30 percent shooting in the first half while building a 19-point lead at intermission. The lead ballooned to 30 points in the fourth quarter.

The Knicks, who had lost 11 of 12, haven’t had a night like this in a long time.

“It was a great all-around win,” Tom Thibodeau said. “Our starters played really well.”

Rangers Show Confidence With Igor Shesterkin In Net

Thursday night provided just the latest example of a Rangers victory not aligning with the peripheral numbers that are supposedly meant to measure a team’s true performance, independent of the scoreboard.

So while the Rangers beat the Capitals, 4-1, while in command most of the match, in which every goal came at full strength, they came up short in the five-on-five attempts share (41.56 percent), shot share (38 percent), scoring chances (44.19 percent), high danger chances (45.45 percent) and expected goals (44.01 percent), as measured by Natural Stat Trick.

MSG-TV analyst Steve Valiquette, using numbers from his own company’s operation, went on Twitter to call it a “stolen win,” by virtue of Igor Shesterkin outplaying Ilya Samsonov.

Overall, the Rangers reside in the NHL’s nether regions pretty much across the board when it comes to analytics, with the most ardent believers having issues legitimizing the 33-13-5 record the team will take into its Saturday afternoon confrontation at Pittsburgh.

And while the Rangers, of course, do want more puck possession and would like to limit chances against, they have found a formula for consistent success. If Shesterkin, whose save percentage of .940 is veering into historic territory, is a large part of that equation, his teammates are not apologizing for that.

Kia Recalls Over 400,000 Vehicles

Kia announced it is recalling over 410,00 vehicles in the United States because of an issue that may result in the airbags failing to inflate in a crash. The recall includes certain 2017-2019 Sedona, Soul, Soul EV, and Forte vehicles.

“The Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) cover may contact a memory chip on the printed circuit board and damage the electrical circuit. Circuit damage may result in deactivated airbags that will not deploy in a crash,” the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration explained.

Kia said it has received 13 customer complaints and 947 warranty claims due to the issue since July. The car company noted there have been no reports of accidents or injuries due to the problem.

Owners will be notified by mail and will be able to bring their vehicle to a dealership where technicians will either update the software or replace the control unit.
