The New York Giants led by Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 34-17. New York improved to 2-4, while Philadelphia fell to 4-2 in losing two in a row for the first time since 2023.

The Giants were the better team from start to finish on Thursday.

Cam Skattebo ran for three touchdowns.He finished with 98 yards on 19 carries and caught two passes for 12 yards.

Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, now 2-1 in three starts, completed 17 of 25 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 58 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. 

Philadelphia QB Jalen Hurts was 24-of-33 for 283 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also ran for a touchdown. A.J. Brown caught six passes for 80 yards and Dallas Goedert nine for 110 and a touchdown. Barkley ran for 58 yards on 12 carries.

The Buss family has agreed to sell the majority ownership of the Los Angeles Lakers to TWG Global CEO and chairman and Los Angeles Dodgers majority owner Mark Walter for a franchise valuation of approximately $10 billion, which would be the largest sale of a professional sports franchise in the world.

The price beats the previous records set during the $6.1 billion sale of the Boston Celtics in 2025 and the $6.05 billion sale of the NFL’s Washington Commanders in 2023. Walter’s purchase of the Dodgers in 2012 as part of the Guggenheim contingency ranks 12th all-time.

Walter has served as a minority stakeholder in the Lakers since 2021 and also has interests in the Los Angeles Sparks, the Billie Jean Cup, Cadillac Formula One team and the Professional Women’s Hockey League. 

Lakers controlling owner Jeanie Buss, the daughter of late former owner Dr. Jerry Buss, will reportedly continue to serve her role as the team’s governor after the completion of the sale.

Dr. Jerry Buss purchased the Lakers from the late Jack Kent Cooke for $67.5 million in 1979, a deal that also included the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings and the Los Angeles Forum, the team’s home arena until 1999. Dr. Buss died in 2013, with his daughter taking over as the team’s governor ever since.

Most NFL players have short careers. They only have a few seasons to prove they can be difference makers at their positions, or their teams and then the rest of the league moves on fast.

It’s a stressful world, and each season just about every player needs to prove his worth all over again. But to some players, there is extra pressure to perform this season to establish themselves as impact players or earn a big new contract.

Justin Fields got another chance to start from the Jets, who were a bit desperate after moving on from Aaron Rodgers. Fields got a two-year, $40 million deal, which would either be easy for the Jets to move on from after one season or for Fields to seek a long-term extension if he plays well. 

The Jets still have plenty of talent and there’s no real competition for Fields on the roster. He should get the season to prove what he can do. However, a poor preseason passing the ball didn’t inspire much confidence heading into the season. This might be Fields’ last good chance to establish himself as a regular starter in the NFL.
