Braves Beat Astros 6-2 in World Series Opener

Jorge Soler, who appeared in only the final two games of the NLCS as a pinch hitter after missing several games due to a positive COVID-19 test, didn’t show any rust in his first at-bat in Game 1 of the World Series.

On the third pitch of the night, he became the first player ever to lead off the World Series with a home run. Atlanta added another in the first, one more in the second and two more on an Adam Duvall homer in the third to take an early 5-0 lead in Houston.

The Astros were able to scratch across a pair after Braves’ ace Charlie Morton was forced to exit the game with a fractured right fibula, but the Braves bullpen still held them to just two runs across the final six innings of the game as Atlanta won Game 1 of the World Series 6-2.

Patriots Humiliate Jets 54-13

In the New York Jets’ sixth game of the 2021 season, on a bright and sunny October day in Foxborough, Massachusetts, the Jets were demolished by the New England Patriots, 54 – 13.

The Jets offense was nonexistent, as is customary. Meanwhile the Jets defense also failed to show up for the game. The Patriots scored on every possession of the first half to rack up 31 points at halftime. The Jets defense put up only token resistance, allowing big play after big play to a Patriots offense not known for the big play.

It was an embarrassing game for the Green and White. To rub salt into the Jets’ wounds, Zach Wilson injured his knee and the Jets offense was left to fend for itself as best it could with Mike White at the helm.

This was a humiliating game for the Jets. They were dominated in every aspect. After a bye week in which the Jets tried to fix their numerous offensive woes, the team looked worse than ever.

With the loss the Jets go to 1-5 on the year.

NY Giants Beat Carolina Panthers 25-3

The New York Giants beat the Carolina Panthers 25-3 on Sunday, finally securing their first victory of the season at home.

For most of the game it looked as though neither team was particularly interested in, or capable of, winning.

We could say that the 5-3 score, which persisted for about 44 minutes into the game, was evidence of a titanic battle between the defenses. But watching the game, it was more the result of two beat up, bad offenses not being able to get much of anything going. As a fan of the sport, much of this game was just hard to watch.

This was a win the Giants desperately needed. They overcame a bevy of injuries to get a win as underdogs at home.

But it’s also true that they went up against the right opponent at the right time.
